The World Championships from Mendriso, Switzerland sees UK coverage switch back to the BBC with coverage on BBC Two, BBCi (usually called STREAM-0 up to STREAM-6 – both 28e) and online. It looks like only the senior races are on the BBC.

Across Europe, more races are on Eurosport at 19e and RAI Tre and RAI Sport Píu at 13e. The senior races and short reports from others are also on SLO-2 at 13e.

It doesn’t appear to be on RTBF-Sat, TVEI or RTPI. If you spot it on other free-to-air satellite channels, please leave a comment here.

  2. Is it possible to pick up European Cycling by satellite if I am in the USA? I was told that the earth is TOO round for that to be possible. Thanks

  3. Well, you can’t pick it up from Europe-facing satellites like the ones I usually cite. Not only does the curvature of the Earth work against you, but also their target “footprint” which you can see on a site like http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/ is aimed at Europe. You’d need a colossal dish to pick up such a weak signal, even on the east coast.

However, there is hope: some European broadcasters, including RTPi at 89w and 101w (one or two races a year), broadcast free-to-air to north America. Other than that, it looks pretty thin – I think Universal Sports on 103w might have some races sometimes.

In general, it seems that it’s pretty much all Pay-TV in the USA. FreeTV and FTAsat is free-at-the-point-of-use utopian socialist nonsense, after all, isn’t it? 😉 Welcome to the land of the free, where you have to pay and pay.

Maybe someone who knows more can offer more hopeful news…
